Display Problems in Firefox 2
Mozilla released the Firefox 2 Web browser in 2006. Although the browser is now several years old, an estimated 11 percent of the world still uses it as of the date of publication, according to StatCounter. If you encounter a problem displaying certain pages in Firefox 2, you may not be able to resolve the issue without upgrading to a more recent version of Firefox.

Rendering Engine
-
Firefox uses a page rendering engine called "Gecko." Gecko is responsible for interpreting the code downloaded from websites and displaying the result on the screen. Firefox 2 includes Gecko version 1.8.1, while Firefox 9 includes Gecko version 9. As a result, Firefox 2 may not adhere to the most recent Web standards and might display certain pages incorrectly. Mozilla declared Firefox 2 obsolete when it terminated support for the product in 2008.
Flash Plugin
-
Many websites rely on Adobe Flash to display multimedia content such as videos and online games. Firefox 2 uses a plugin from Adobe to display Flash content, but some websites may require a more recent version of the plugin than the one installed on your computer. Version 11 of the Adobe Flash plugin requires Firefox 4 or later.

Printing
-
Firefox 2 may encounter a problem displaying the full page if you attempt to print a page with areas for user input. If any of the text boxes on the page contain words flagged as misspelled – indicated by wavy red lines under the misspelled words – some data will not be displayed on the printed page. You can resolve this issue by updating to a newer version of Firefox or right-clicking the text boxes with misspelled words and removing the check next to "Spell check this field."
Slow Display
-
The advanced configuration options in Firefox 2 give you the ability to adjust the delay before the browser begins displaying a page after it receives the first data from the server. Extending the delay can result in a perceived improvement in browsing speed on slow Internet connections. However, you may find Web browsing slow if you have since upgraded to a broadband connection. You can change this value by typing "about:config" in the Firefox 2 address bar and pressing "Enter." Search for the option "nglayout.initialpaint.delay." Computer website TechSpot.com recommends setting this value to "250" on broadband connections.
