My AutoCAD Sheet Tabs Are Missing
AutoCAD includes several ways that you can increase the size of the main drawing area; one of which is to remove the sheet tabs. Unfortunately, it is easy to accidentally deactivate these tabs, and when this happens, they cannot be reactivated in the same way, which may confuse new users to AutoCAD.

Sheet tabs, which are also referred to as “layout tabs” or “model tabs” depending on the drawings they contain, are the small tabs at the bottom of the AutoCAD screen. They allow you to switch easily between different drawings or views, or to add notes to specific sections. In large projects, tabs are essential to easy navigation, but sometimes they may need to be deactivated temporarily.
Activating the Tabs

If the tabs are hidden, you can activate them through the options menu. Click the large “A” button in the top left of the screen and then click the “Options” button at the bottom-right of the menu that appears. Select the “Display” tab and look for the “Layout Elements” header. Underneath it is a check box labeled “Display Layout and Model tabs.” Check this box and then click “OK.”

Hiding the Tabs

As well as going through the process described in the “Activating the Tabs” section and then unchecking the relevant text box, you can also hide the tabs from the tabs list itself. To accomplish this, right-click on any tab and click “Hide Layout and Model Tabs.” Note that this option is the closest one to the mouse pointer after you right-click, which makes it easy to accidentally deactivate the tabs.

Aside from accidentally deactivating the sheet tabs, a common reason for hiding them is to create more space in the drawing area. However, if you require both additional space and the use of tabs, there is an alternative. When the tabs are hidden, three new icons appear to the far right of the AutoCAD status bar. Click the right-most icon to reveal a drop-down list of tabs. This is a more unwieldy than the tab system, but it is an alternative when you need more space.
