Ie8 Web Slices Not Working
A third-party add-in application can sometimes stop the Web Slice feature from working correctly in the Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Web browser, generating an error message and preventing you from accessing your saved Web slices. To fix the problem, download Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 cumulative security update that contains a software patch to rectify the issue.

About Web Slices
-
The Web Slice tool in Internet Explorer 8 lets users subscribe to certain sections of a Web page that contain dynamic features or regularly updated information, such as weather reports or stock prices. When working correctly, you can see when a saved Web slice has been updated and access the item from a link on Internet Explorer’s Favorites bar.
Web Slice Error
-
Some users receive an error message when trying to access the Web Slice tool from certain browser functions, including the Suggested Sites Web Slice feature. The browser displays the “Internet Explorer cannot display the Web page” error message in the Web Slice preview window and you can’t access the feature. The problem might also occur in the Internet Explorer Accelerators preview window.

Cause
-
Microsoft reports that the Web Slice error is a known problem with the IE8 Web browser. The issue can occur if you install the Google Gears gadget add-on, which installs a helper object to the browser to provide access to a range of additional features on compatible websites, including offline reading and synchronization. Before troubleshooting the problem, check the status of the Google Gears add-on by clicking “Tools” in the main menu, followed by “Manage Add-Ons” and then “Toolbars and Extensions.” The status of the Google Gears Helper feature should read “Enabled.”
Troubleshooting
-
Before fixing the problem with Microsoft’s cumulative update, check that the issue isn’t caused by an Internet connection problem. If you can browse the Web normally in Internet Explorer, you can rule out this possibility. Go to the download page at Technet.microsoft.com (full address in Resources.) Scroll to the Internet Explorer 8 section on the download page. Click the download link next to the correct update file for your version of the Windows operating system. Select “Run” in the download confirmation box to automatically download and install the update. Click “Save” or “Save As” if you want to download the file but install it at a later time. After installing the update, the Web Slice feature should run correctly.
