Paper Craft Handcuffs
Paper handcuff crafts are mess-free, simple to make and add dimension to flat paper craft projects. Make a simple link chain out of strips of paper by stapling, taping or gluing one strip’s ends together, forming a closed loop, and then lacing another strip through the loop before gluing its ends together to form a second link. Attach a thin metal, foil, or traced and cut-out paper chain between two links to form handcuffs. To make cuffs without adhesive, cut notch slits into the ends of each chain and interlock them to close the link.

Reusable Play Props
-
Paper handcuffs made out of thick, folded strips of sturdy brown bag paper or newspaper not only make for a constructive craft project for school-age children, they also result in a useful accessory for dress up and role play. Measure strips around children’s wrists, keeping the cuffs loose and adding 1 inch of slack to account for overlapping ends. Glue each cuff’s ends together with rubber cement for a long-lasting cuff set, and create a miniature paper-link chain to join cuffs together. Use the rubber cement in a well-ventilated area and allow to dry completely before playing with the handcuff set.
Homemade Party Decorations
-
Paper link chains made from brightly-colored construction paper make for easy, DIY party decorations. Simply drape or hang the paper chains from ceilings, tabletops and doorways. Paper handcuffs made from folded or rolled cardboard or aluminum foil make compatible decor for Halloween, cops and robbers, or pirate-theme parties. Thread or glue a necklace chain between each cuff to create an authentic — or avoid a kitschy — look.

Playful Ornaments
-
Long, thin paper link chains in festive colors add a warm, homemade touch to Christmas trees, fireplace mantles, window rods and molding during the holiday season. For a festive twist, use holiday wrapping paper to form long link chains. Make a miniature paper handcuff set out of construction paper, apply a thin layer of glue with a small paintbrush and dip into glitter for a sparkling tree ornament to represent the police officer in your family, or attach a magnet to the back and use as a festive refrigerator accessory.
DIY Game Pieces
-
Family game night doesn’t always have to be spent gathered around the TV or table. Play active games with children to get them up and moving, and create your own game piece or accessory for games like London Bridge or for three-legged races. Encourage children to design their own unique games that incorporate the use of paper handcuffs.
