Third Commandment Craft for Preschoolers
According to the Bible, the third commandment states to not misuse God’s name. Bible study groups translate this commandment as meaning to not use God’s name in a negative or thoughtless way. Talking about God in a blasphemous way is a form of not following this commandment. If you are in charge of a preschool class and teaching the third commandment, incorporate several craft projects into your lesson.

Mouth Craft
-
Cut a piece of construction paper into a tongue shape. Write down the third commandment onto the center of the tongue. Create a mouth by gluing together two empty cookie trays. Paint the cookie trays red to make it resemble a mouth. Cut out a hole in the front of the mouth and glue the tongue with the third commandment printed on it. Explain to the children that the mouth and the words on the tongue relate to the third commandment because they must always be careful of the things that come out of their mouth. Remind them to take care of what they say about others including God.
Hand Puppets
-
Hand puppets can be a part of your third commandment lesson for a preschool class. Provide each child with a sock or piece of cloth to use for the craft project. You can use glue or double sided tape to secure blue or brown dots for the eyes, a strip of red for the mouth and brown yarn for the hair. Use the puppets to recreate the scene of the 10 commandments and help the children memorize them. If the memorization of 10 commandments poses too much of a challenge, ask each child to make the puppet repeat only one of the commandments.

Paper Moses
-
Print out a background template to create your depiction of Moses and the third commandment. Print the third commandment on a piece of gray paper and allow the preschoolers to cut the paper into the shape of a stone. Cut out a head shape, hands, robe, shoes and beard. Allow the preschoolers to color each piece and assemble them on a paper along with the stone to depict Moses reading the commandments.
Bean Bag Craft
-
With the beanbag craft for the third commandment, you can help the preschoolers make a mouth on the center of a piece of cardboard. Cut out a hole in the center of the mouth. The hole must be large enough to accommodate a bean bag. Give each child a bean bag to throw through their homemade mouth. Each time the bag goes through the hole, they receive a copy of a commandment. The goal is to collect all 10 of the commandments.
