Why Is Everything Struck Through in Firefox?

Firefox is a highly customizable browser that accepts the changing and adding of features and options through add-ons. If your browser is experiencing an error in which your links and text are struck through, this could be the result of a temporary glitch or a faulty add-on. Fix this problem by restarting your browser or pinpointing the add-on causing the problem.

  1. Restart Firefox

    • Errors and glitches sometimes occur for no decipherable reason. In many cases, the easiest solution is to restart. If it is a temporary glitch, it could be resolved when the program restarts. Restarting offers the added benefit of causing the browser to run faster, especially if it has been open for a long time, because temporary data is cleared and refreshed.

    Remove Unnecessary Add-ons

    • Add-ons are often the source of browser woes. If you have a large number of add-ons, the easiest way to start is to go through the entire list of add-ons and remove any that are old, outdated or unused. This clears up the list and fixes a variety of problems. To access the add-ons, click "Tools," followed by "Add-ons." Click "Extensions" on the left sidebar. When you are finished, restart the browser. If this doesn't fix the problem, you'll need to try something more specific.

    Start in Safe Mode

    • If you want to know for sure whether an add-on is causing the problem, start your browser in Safe Mode while disabling add-ons. Click the "Firefox" button and open the "Help" menu. Click "Restart with Add-ons Disabled." Check "Disable All Add-Ons" and then click "Continue in Safe Mode. If the strike through problem is gone, you know an add-on caused the problem. Enable the add-ons one by one and open Firefox with only one add-on enabled each time to identify which add-on is enabled when the problem begins.

    Reinstall

    • If Safe Mode doesn't work, a reinstall is your safest bet. The best way to do this is to start from scratch. Make a note of which add-ons you use so you can find them again and back up your bookmarks. To do this, click "Bookmarks" and then "Show All Bookmarks." Click the "Import and Backup" icon at the top, followed by "Export Bookmarks to HTML." From here, you can save an HTML file to your computer of all your bookmarks. After you reinstall, follow the same process, only click the option to import your HTML file; all your bookmarks are restored. A complete reinstall solves most temporary problems caused by glitches, bugs or faulty add-ons.
