The first step to making sure readers of your blog can participate in polls is adding the poll to your WordPress blog. The option to add a poll exists in the toolbar at the top of the "Compose" window, and is a circular icon located to the right of the icons that allow you to add photos and videos. Once you have added the poll to the blog entry, you can change its title and the questions in it.

When you add a poll to a WordPress blog, you are also able to dictate who may participate in the poll. You may specify, for example, only that users who have registered and logged into your blog can participate in the poll. Alternatively, you may make the entire entry private or only visible to a certain portion of your audience. In either instance, people who can't see the poll aren't able to participate in it.

WordPress polls include built-in functionality to prevent voters from voting more than once. As a result, if you have voted in the poll and then attempt to click the "Vote" button again as a means of testing out the poll's functionality, you will find that doing so produces no action. Likewise, if a reader who has already voted in the poll informs you that the "Vote" button doesn't work, this is the reason why.

Additionally, a variety of reader errors may be responsible for failure of the "Vote" button to work. For example, the reader's Web browser might not support the poll, which requires JavaScript to work. Alternatively, the user may not have selected a poll option before clicking "Vote," which results in no action upon clicking the "Vote" button.
