TVersity Crashes in Vista
TVersity, a program that lets you stream media to electronic devices, is fully compatible with all editions of Windows Vista. Compatibility doesn't mean errors won't occur and most are due to incompatibility or bugs in the software. The website has a forum dedicated to user's questions, which is the recommended method to send bug reports.

Library Files
-
The TVersity Graphical User Interface includes a library that displays media files on your hard drive. The GUI scans these files, making them available to the device you're streaming to. Occasionally, a bad file is found and instead of a warning, the server simply shuts down. Open the GUI and click "Refresh." Watch the file list carefully to see if you can determine the last file accessed before the crash, and then delete it.
Embedded Subs
-
TVersity uses the FFDShow filter to handle subtitles and includes them as long as the subtitle file is in the same folder as the video. Embedded subs are a little different because the subtitles are hard-coded onto the video. One problem in particular occurs during the transcoding of MKV files with embedded subs. Regular MKVs play smoothly, but the subtitled ones cause the media server to crash instantly. To fix the crash, uninstall TVersity and use a registry cleaner to remove leftover entries. Restart the computer and reinstall TVersity, allowing it to install the FFDShow version shown during the setup.

Media Formats
-
Multiple media formats are compatible with TVersity, including videos, music and pictures. Sometimes the software crashes after attempting to sync your music folder. You can take all of them out and add them back one by one, or use debug mode to identify the last file TVersity accessed before quitting. To launch debug mode, open "Start | All Programs | TVersity | TVersity Tools" and click "Share Media Command Prompt." Type "mediaserver -debug" minus the quotes, in the command window that appears and press "Enter."
General Troubleshooting
-
Run Windows update from the Start menu under "All Programs," "Windows Update." Allow it to check for updates, then click "Install Updates." If you've recently upgraded to Vista, uninstall all previous versions of TVersity and download the latest release from TVersity.com. In uTorrent, open "Options | Preferences | Connections | Enable UPnP Port Mapping" and click "Disable." When this setting is enabled in peer-to-peer software, it prevents the media server from starting.
