Can I Run Two Monitors With Dell Studio i5?
The Dell Studio laptops with i5 processors are designed for high-definition media and to have more than one monitor display connected. This feature is easy to set up in Windows, and makes it easier to multitask between two or more programs. To set up multiple monitors, you will need monitors with connections compatible with your Dell.

Monitor Connections
-
The Studio series offers an HDMI port, which will allow you to connect any HDMI-compatible monitor or television and use it as an alternative or extended display. The Dell Studio series also comes with a VGA port, which is used for standard definition LCD monitors. In theory, you can use this to connect two external monitors in addition to your current display, but this is not a feature listed or tested on the Dell website.
Setting Up Dual Screens
-
To create a dual-monitor setup in Windows, right-click on the desktop and select "Screen Resolution." You can also open this menu by opening the Control Panel, going to "Appearance and Personalization" and selecting "Display." On the Screen Resolution page, select "Extend These Displays" from the Multiple Displays drop-down menu. Click "Apply" to make the changes to your system. You can do this with a computer monitor or a television.
-
Setting Up Three Screens
-
You can do this from the same Screen Resolution window where you set up dual monitors. If the third monitor is not detected, click the "Detect" button. This should bring up your third monitor, but it might also bring up a square that says "Another Display Not Detected." If you see this, you can click that box and select "Try to Connect Anyway" from the Multiple Displays drop-down menu. You may need to update your video drivers if it doesn't detect your third monitor at all.
Varying Resolutions
-
The most likely quirk you'll come across is if your laptop screen and monitors use different native resolutions -- this is especially likely if you have monitors that are different sizes. While you can set each monitor to its own native resolution, you will find that items on the screen don't visually line up exactly from one monitor to the other.
