iPage Vs. InMotion
As the Internet expands and matures, more and more people are becoming interested in creating their own websites. One of the first and perhaps most important steps a prospective website administrator must make is choosing an appropriate hosting service. Numerous hosting services exist, some more comprehensive and reputable than others. InMotion and iPage, though very different, are prominent examples. Ultimately, the choice between them comes down to the goals you want to achieve with your website.

IPage’s Unique Features
-
IPage’s services are aimed primarily at the small-scale user requiring a relatively basic hosting service. As a result, iPage offers several consumer-friendly solutions that address the common requirements of beginner and intermediate website administrators. For example, tools for easily putting together a basic site are available, including dozens of prefabricated templates and themes. IPage also offers beginner-friendly marketing and advertising tools for those wanting to create an online store, but lack the advanced server administration and programming skills to create their own. Further, iPage makes it possible to add a range of free blogging, photo gallery and traffic analysis tools to their site with a single click. One very unique feature is the fact that iPage’s servers are powered exclusively by wind power, making it the more eco-friendly of the two.
InMotion’s Unique Features
-
InMotion offers a much wider range of hosting options than iPage, the upper tiers of which are intended for the hosting of large-scale, professionally-administered websites. For example, InMotion offers a dedicated server option, making it possible to host a large, busy commercial website without the problems associated with server sharing. A basic hosting option that is comparable to iPage’s hosting service is also offered at a similar introductory price. Unlike iPage, most of InMotion’s services are aimed at a more advanced, business-centered clientele, and include a custom webpage design service far more advanced than iPage’s.

Similarities
-
Although iPage doesn’t offer the larger-scale hosting options that InMotion does, its relatively basic services are quite comparable to InMotion’s Value Class hosting options. For example, InMotion’s Standard Site Builder tools are similar to iPage’s site design tools in terms of general functionality and capability. Both offer basic security tools, including comprehensive spam-blocking functionality for their respective email services. Both also integrate easily with Google’s various website tools, including its AdSense service.
Considerations
-
Because iPage’s business model is centered exclusively around individual users, it’s probably the better option for personal and similarly small-scale websites. Their “all-in-one” approach is particularly well-suited to beginners. InMotion’s tiered approach to services, however, makes it possible to upgrade beyond the basic hosting options, making it the better option for ambitious administrators wanting to start small and actively grow and expand from there. InMotion’s Value Plans are also ultimately less expensive than iPage’s sole hosting option, whose initial monthly cost of $2.95 USD, as of December 2011, more than doubles after the first three months.
