A basic membership on IMVU gives you access to tools that help you manage the features and look of your account. On your Account page, for instance, click the links under the Account Tools section, such as “Change Password” or “Register a New Avatar Name,” to manage the settings of your membership. On your avatar profile page, click the “Edit” button in each panel - the individual boxes that display your content - to control characteristics including the background and text colors.
IMVU Content Creator Tools

When you become an IMVU Content Creator, you get a special set of tools that help you design your digital products for the IMVU catalog. Each tool performs a specific part of the creation process. For instance, the “Derive a New 3D Product” tool lets you pick a product, such as “Hair,” and choose its characteristics including whether the item is for a male or female. The Create Mode Editor tabs, such as Meshes and Actions, allow you to apply textures and animations that make your items 3D and bring them to life.

Considerations for IMVU Content Creators

Before you use the special tools for IMVU Content Creators, take a couple of things into account. First, you must have a 2D paint program that exports GIF, PNG and JPG file formats. The paint program allows you to make products, such as stickers, and enhancements including opacity maps that you upload to your creator tools. Next, it helps to have the 3DS Max 7 program and a recent version of Flash. These applications allow you to make advanced, animated products such as games and chat rooms.

To use the tools in IMVU, log in to your account. Click the desired link, such as “Facebook Connect,” on your Account page to manage the features of your membership. Click the desired “Edit” button on your profile page and select an option, such as “Edit Custom HTML/CSS,” to control the look of your site. If you are an IMVU Content Creator, click the “Create” button in the toolbar to launch the Create Mode Editor page, which contains all of your creator tools.
