Problems with your computer's graphics drivers can crash "Angry Birds."

The PC version of “Angry Birds” can crash with a “texture is too large” error message on some computers. “Angry Birds” texture size errors indicate out-of-date software, incorrect settings or incompatible hardware. You can fix an “Angry Birds” texture size error by updating the game, installing new graphics drivers or changing your hardware acceleration setting.

  1. Update “Angry Birds”

    • Download the latest version of “Angry Birds” from Rovio if you’re experiencing problems. New versions can fix texture size errors and other problems. The game is available from both Intel’s AppUp store and Rovio’s website. If you installed “Angry Birds” form the Intel AppUp store, open the AppUp application on your system and use the available updates panel to download any available updates. Download the latest version of “Angry Birds” from Rovio’s website if you purchased it directly from Rovio.

    Graphics Drivers

    • Updates for your computer’s graphics drivers could also fix this problem. Visit your computer manufacturer’s website, locate the support page for your computer’s model number navigate to the download section. Download the latest version of the comptuer’s graphics driver or video driver software. Install the drivers by double-clicking the downloaded “.exe” file. If you have a desktop PC with an NVIDIA or AMD video card, you can visit NVIDIA or AMD’s websites to download the latest drivers.

    Hardware Acceleration

    • Lowering your computer’s video hardware acceleration setting may also solve this problem on some systems. Right-click the Windows desktop, select “Screen Resolution” and click the “Advanced Settings” link near the bottom right corner of the window. Click the “Troubleshoot” tab, click the “Change Settings” button and click and drag the slider to the left, setting at the middle position instead of the right-most position. Click “OK” to save your settings. This option is disabled by some graphics drivers and may not be available on your system.

    OpenGL Support

    • “Angry Birds” requires graphics hardware that supports OpenGL 1.3 or a newer version and won’t run without it. Rovio recommends using the Realtech VR GLview, available for free from Realtech VR website, to check if your system supports OpenGL 1.3 or newer. Double-click the downloaded “.exe” file to install GLview on your system, launch it and read the number to the right of “Version” under OpenGL in the program’s main window. The version number must read 1.3 or newer; “Angry Birds” doesn’t support your computer if the version number is 1.2 or less.
