Entourage Help for the Mac

Microsoft first released Entourage as part of the Office 2001 suite of application. Entourage is an email client and personal information manager exclusively for the Mac OS X operating system. In 2008, Microsoft discontinued Entourage and replaced it with Outlook for Macintosh. Entourage features the ability to organize tasks, calendars, address books and projects. Additionally, the application offers email security and junk mail filtering abilities.

  1. Setup Assistant

    • The first time you open the Entourage application, you must create a new identity. This will automatically launch the Entourage Setup Assistant. You can use the setup assistance to customize Entourage and the Entourage features that you want to use. For example, you can import contacts from your computer’s Address Book application to Entourage. Additionally, the setup assistant allows you to select the domain controller, global catalog server, active directory and Exchange mailbox server that you want to use with the application.

    Mailbox Synchronization and Public Folders

    • After closing the Setup Assistant, Entourage will automatically use the selected configurations to carry out functions on your computer. Entourage uses the Internet Information Server to connect to your mailbox. This Exchange server can communicate with front and back end mailbox servers. This allows Entourage’s email client to send and receive email messages from multiple email accounts linked to the Entourage application.

Folder Sharing and Password Expiration Notice

    • Folder sharing is a feature that allows mail client servers to communicate quickly and efficiently. Entourage’s folder sharing allows you to establish permissions to access specific on a server. To change these settings, you can right-click within the Entourage application on the folder and select the desired option on the permission tab. You can also set these permissions to allow access to an individual for a limited amount time.

    Management

    • Entourage also allows you to establish parameters and restrictions for many of the application’s features. This includes the ability to set restrictions for inboxes, calendars and contacts. For example, you could establish a quota for your email’s inbox to maximize the storage capability of the email account’s server.
