What Are Orange POP Mail Settings?

Like other Internet services, Orange includes a Web-based email service accessible from the company’s main website. The service lets you send and receive messages from any computer, and you can send and receive messages using a standalone email application that supports the Post Office Protocol 3, also known as POP mail. Email applications include Microsoft Outlook, Koma Mail, Thunderbird and Pegasus Mail.

  1. POP Protocol

    • POP is a protocol for receiving emails through the Internet. The protocol downloads emails from Orange’s email server and stores them on your computer. POP doesn’t keep a copy of your messages on the Internet service’s server. You have total control over your messages, including the ability to delete them without worrying about exceeding any email storage limits.

    POP Settings

    • Orange’s incoming POP mail setting is “pop.orangehome.co.uk.” The Internet service uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) for sending emails through the Internet. Orange’s outgoing mail setting is “smtp.orangehome.co.uk.” Orange’s servers do not require authentication. You don’t have to re-enter the password you use to access your Orange email account a second time before your standalone email application starts the email retrieval or delivery process.

    Email and Port Settings

    • When setting up your Orange email account within a standalone email application, you must enter your Orange email address and password during the “New Account” or “Account” process. You also need to enter “110” into the box next to “POP Port Number.” Enter “25” into the box next to "SMTP Port Number.” The port numbers provide communication access to Orange’s incoming and outgoing mail servers. Consult your standalone email application’s manual for specific instructions on accessing the new email account setup component.

    Application Availability

    • Standalone email applications are available from electronics superstores, computer stores and online software outlets. The programs are also available directly from Microsoft, Apple and other computer and hardware manufactures. Standalone email applications include installation wizards and built-in help files for guiding you through setting up your Orange email account within each program.
