Yahoo! Email Crashes With Firefox

If you find Yahoo! Mail crashing with Firefox, a few problems could be to blame. Mozilla and Yahoo! agree that having an older version of the Firefox browser can lead to problems. To determine which version of Firefox you have, go to the “About Firefox” link in the browser’s Help menu. Then, visit the Firefox website to determine if you’re using the most current version of its browser. If you’re not, download an update. If your problems persist with the newest browser, check its settings to troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Unresponsive Script

    • If your Yahoo! email page seems to “freeze up” occasionally in Firefox and you receive a message about an unresponsive script, try modifying the default script execution time. To do this, type “about:config” in your Firefox address bar, then type "dom.max_script_run_time" into the Filter box. Right click on the runtime line and select modify. Type in “30” to increase the maximum runtime to 30 seconds.

    Cookies

    • Yahoo! says problems with its email service can result from cookies stored in your browser. Clearing these out may resolve your issue. To delete cookies from Firefox, click on the "History" menu and select “Clear Recent History.” Choose “Everything” for the time range to clear and make sure the box beside “Cookies” is checked before pressing “Clear Now.” Uncheck any other items you don’t want the browser to delete.

    Java

    • Other troubleshooting recommendations for preventing your Yahoo! Mail from crashing include making sure you have JavaScript enabled in your browser. To check this, open the "Options" menu in Firefox and make sure the box next to "Enable JavaScript" is checked.

    Add-ons and Extensions

    • Add-ons or extensions you’ve installed in Firefox may interfere with Yahoo! Mail. Add-ons are applications that help you personalize Firefox and include a tool to simplify the downloading of Web-based videos and a tool that tells you which websites are trustworthy. Try disabling your add-ons to see if this resolves your problem. You can do this by accessing the Firefox “Add-Ons” menu.
