Why Is My Firefox Browser Hiding the Top Two Lines?
The Firefox Web browser's top two lines, housing buttons and toolbars near the top of the screen, sometimes get altered by mistake. Mozilla may also choose to change them with a Firefox update, leaving you wondering what happened to the top lines of your browser, often reserved for important bars like the menu and navigation bar.

Firefox Button

Firefox 4 and newer versions replace the typical menu bar with a single "Firefox" button. Located in the upper left corner of the browser's window, the orange Firefox button houses some of the old menu bar's most important items. From the Firefox button, you can access your favorites, history, browser add-ons, downloads and options. You also have access to menu bar items like "Print," "New Tab," "Find" and "Exit."
Hidden Bars

If you're trying to find menu and toolbars you once had but have now vanished, Firefox lets you quickly get them back. Click any open space in the top of the browser's interface, and you'll see a list of toolbars. Bars with check marks next to them mean they're displayed, while ones without a check aren't. Click any of the items that don't have a check mark to activate and show that bar. Options include the menu bar, favorites bar and the navigation bar, where the address bar is located. The menu also displays toggles for any toolbars belonging to your installed add-ons. For the menu bar, you can also press your keyboard's "Alt" key to display it until you select something.

Corrupt Toolbars

All of the settings for your toolbars are stored within a file on your computer. If this file gets corrupted, it may alter or ruin your toolbar display. You can reset the file to remove any corruption. Click the "Firefox" button, mouse over "Help" and select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled" to restart Firefox and display a "Firefox Safe Mode" window over the browser. Check the box next to "Reset toolbars and controls," then click "Make Changes and Restart." If the toolbar file was corrupt, it should now be fixed.

If you're experiencing trouble with an add-on bar, go to the add-on's page on the Firefox add-on website (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/) to make sure it's compatible with your version of the Web browser. If not, you'll have to either find an alternative, go without or downgrade Firefox by uninstalling it and installing an earlier version. If the add-on does show compatibility for your version of Firefox, consider accessing its options menu from Firefox's "Add-ons" page. Find info on your add-ons by clicking the "Firefox" button and selecting "Add-ons."
Customizing Toolbars

If your toolbars are present, but missing specific features and buttons you've come to expect, you can fix the situation. Right-click an open space in the browser's displayed toolbars near the top of the window and select "Customize." The new window lets you drag specific icons to your desired location. You can also create and customize your own toolbar to replace the missing one, if no other options work for you. From the customization window, you can select "Restore Default Sets" to reset the toolbars to their default appearance and functionality.
Reinstall Firefox

If none of these solutions alleviate the problem, the best option may be to reinstall Firefox. A reinstallation both insures your browser is up-to-date and resets your browser to the default configuration. After uninstalling Firefox as you would any other program, restart your computer to ensure all components get fully removed. Go to the browser's website and follow the download links to reinstall the browser.
