What Is EZ Scan on DVR?
Your digital video recorder includes a built-in channel tuner that lets you select channels for viewing and recording. The tuner’s EZ Scan component interfaces with the signal coming from your television antenna or cable/satellite connection and retrieves all available channels in your area. The component then stores and makes those channels available for you to select using your DVR’s remote control.
-
Signal Selection
-
Your DVR’s EZ Scan component searches for channels based on the type of television signal your DVR is receiving -- antenna, cable or satellite. If the component doesn’t detect a television signal, it will not begin the search. Press the “Menu” button on your DVR’s remote control to access your DVR’s on-screen display. Press “Input” or similar wording to select the type of television signal connected to your DVR before starting the EZ Scan component.
Accessing
-
Use your DVR’s remote control’s up, down, left and right navigation keys to highlight and select “EZ Scan” from the device’s on-screen display after selecting the signal type. Press “Select,“ “OK” or “Enter” to start the channel search process. A listing of found channels will appear on your television’s screen. Do not turn off or unplug your DVR -- this will interrupt the search process and not all available channels in your area will be stored within the device. Once the scan process is complete, your DVR’s on-screen display’s main menu will appear on your television’s screen. Press “Menu” to exit the on-screen display.

Editing Channels
-
In addition to scanning channels, your DVR’s EZ Scan component lets you edit the channels it found including deleting one or more channels you don’t want access to. If you change your mind later, you can manually add the channels. Access your DVR’s on-screen menu and select “Channel Edit” or similar wording. Use your remote control’s navigation keys to select the channel you want delete and press “Select,“ “OK” or “Enter” to make the change. Press “Menu” to exit the on-screen display.
Channel Descriptions
-
The EZ Scan component also retrieves channel descriptions including the channel’s call letters, like WHBQ, and logo, if available. You may also be able to edit the channel descriptions. Description editing is not available on all DVR models. A channel's description and logo appears within your DVR’s programming guide as well as when you first navigate to the channel by entering its number in your remote control’s keypad or by pressing the Channel Up or Channel Down button.
