Can I Use a Dynex Wireless G Router Without an Installation Disc?
Dynex manufacturers computer hardware and accessories, including the now discontinued wireless G router. If you have acquired this router from someone without the disc or have lost the disc since you initially purchased your router, you can still create or modify a wireless network without the software on the installation disc.

The Dynex website actually offers a direct download, if you have an Internet connection, to the easy install software that is available on your installation disc. Connect your computer directly to your modem to download the software then disconnect your modem from the computer and physically connect the router between the two with networking cables. This software download is available as a zip archive that requires you to extract it with Windows Explorer or a third-party program such as WinZip. This software is a wizard that will walk you through the setup and customization of your wireless network.

Like many routers, you can access settings for your Dynex network by typing an Internet protocol, or IP, address into the address bar of your browser. However, you must first connect a computer to the router with an Ethernet/networking cable to establish the initial connect and set up your network. Once you do this, you can type "http://192.168.0.1" in your browser to access the Dynex Control panel. When prompted to enter your username and password, type "admin" for the username and leave the password field blank. Bookmark this control panel for quick access in the future.

Even though you may not have the installation for your Dynex wireless router, you can still use the Web interface to perform a variety of functions. You can still create backups of your router's settings, for example. Furthermore, the Web-based control panel allows you to change the password for the control panel itself as well as customize the name and security protocols of your your wireless network to allow other machines to connect. After setting up the network, you can disconnect the networking cable and connect your computer with wireless protocols. However, you should not attempt to make any changes to a wireless network via wireless connection.

In addition to this, you can download updated firmware -- the internal software that controls your hardware -- for your Dynex Wireless G router from either website. The Belkin website also answers several common questions. For example, it explains the WPS function of your router, which allows you to temporarily suspend security to allow devices to connect without entering the password.
