Component video cables are one of several cable connections on most HDTVs.

EasyCap connects your HDTV, DVD player and other video devices such as digital camcorders to your computer. Use EasyCap to view video files on your computer or to digitally back up your VHS and home movie collection. EasyCap requires component video cables to transfer the video signal to your computer.

  1. Component Video Cables

    • Component video cables send a video signal and two audio signals to and from your TV. The tips of component video cables are one of three colors: yellow, red or white. The red and white channels carry two-channel audio signals while the yellow cable carries your video signal. Component video cables carry up to a 480p signal and are not recommended for high-definition TVs.

    Connecting EasyCap to Your Computer

    • Insert the yellow wire on your EasyCap unit to the yellow "Video Out" port on your HDTV or video device. Connect the red and white wires on EasyCap to the red and white ports labeled "Audio Out" on your TV. Insert the USB plug into an active USB port on your computer to complete installation.

    Capturing Video

    • Once EasyCap is installed on your HDTV and connected to your computer, you can begin the process of video capturing. Video capturing requires the use of video capture software that can decode video data and save it as a digital video file. Video capture programs including Ulead Video, CamStudio and Debut Video Recording can be used in conjunction with EasyCap.

    Video Codecs

    • There are many ways that you can encode raw video files. Uncompressed digital video files can consume several gigabytes of hard drive space. Video codecs compress raw video files into file sizes that are more easily manageable. Popular video codec file formats include Quicktime, DIVX, XVID and the Windows Media format.
