Setting the Stage
-
Nothing says rock star like a concert stage. In one corner of the room, build a slightly elevated stage where guests can play instruments or karaoke. Glitz it up by hanging rock posters and strips of shiny paper. Make a homemade disco ball by covering a large styrofoam ball with aluminum foil or sequins. If the guest of honor has a favorite rock star, blow up a large photo of the musician and mount it on a cardboard cutout. Make cutouts of guitars, saxophones, keyboards and drums out of cardboard and place them around the room so that guests feel like they're onstage.
Table Decorations
-
When dressing your table, choose rock star-worthy motifs like sequins, lace and leopard print. Sew a simple table cloth and napkins out of a suitably patterned fabric. Guest place cards can be created by laminating cardboard backstage passes with each guest's name on them and attaching them to lanyards. A rocker needs a suitable centerpiece, which you can build with a brightly colored lamp in a star shape, glitter and small plastic instruments or rock star figurines. Make a fake Grammy Award by fashioning a gramophone out of cardboard and covering it in gold-colored foil. The focal point of the table will be the birthday cake, which can be shaped as a guitar or made with an edible photo transfer featuring the rock star of your choice.

Special Touches
-
Once you have the basics of the room set up, add some extra touches to make the party special. Make a guitar-shaped pinata out of paper mache to hang in the center of the room. Roll a red carpet up the front lane to your house or down the hallway leading to the party room and hang old CDs from the ceiling to add some extra sparkle and glitz to the room. Pay homage to the guest of honor by making a poster or marquee advertising a rock concert with her name on it.
Decorating the Guests
-
If you want your party to feel like a rock concert, the guests will also have to look the part. Supply all of the guests with temporary tattoos, boas and party favor jewelry. Set up a dressing room with some glittery makeup and nail polish so that guests can give themselves a rock star makeover. Leave homemade rock star garments, such as thrift store jackets adorned with safety pins, patches and lace appliques in the dressing room for guests to wear. Parents, hosts and helpers can act as human decorations by wearing black outfits and security badges to make guest feel like they're hanging out backstage.
