Professional Kickboxing
-
Professional kickboxing involves athletes being paid to compete against one another in kickboxing bouts. Although sanctioning bodies such as the International Kickboxing Federation exist, kickboxing has a looser organization than sports such as boxing, and individual promoters set the compensation paid to professional kickboxers. In general, professional kickboxers are paid less than professional boxers and even MMA athletes because kickboxing is less popular and pulls in less in revenue.

Kickboxing promoters can offer a combination of benefits in compensation to professional kickboxers, including purses and expenses. Kickboxing promoters base such compensation paid to professional kickboxers on a number of factors such as sponsorship and the number of tickets that the kickboxer's presence can be expected to sell. Due to this, the compensation paid to kickboxers differs significantly based on the kickboxer's fame and marketability. For example, K-1, one of the most prominent kickboxing promoters, offers $1,500 to $5,000 per bout in the United States.

Considering the uncertainties in competing in professional kickboxing, it is unsurprising that more kickboxers earn their income through teaching the sport to other interested individuals. Kickboxing instructors can choose to run their own businesses or work for businesses ran by others on either a part-time or full-time basis. Part-time kickboxing instructors are likely to earn wages based on the number of hours worked while full-time kickboxing instructors are likely to earn salaries similar to any other employee.
