The ProStaff 3-9x40 Matte Nikoplex -- also referred to as the 6310 -- and the ProStaff 3-9x40 Matte BDC -- also referred to as the 6320 -- are scopes for hunting rifles, called riflescopes, developed by Nikon. The 6310 uses Nikon’s Nikoplex reticle, while the 6320 uses the Nikon Bullet Drop Compensating, or BDC, reticle. Apart from their reticles, the 6310 and 6320 are identical.

  1. Reticles

    • A reticle -- also referred to as crosshairs -- is a combination of lines and other markings inside riflescopes and other sighting devices designed to aid in aiming. The 6310’s Nikon Nikoplex reticle is a duplex-style reticle with two intersecting lines that are fatter near the edges and thinner near the center. The 6320’s Bullet Drop Compensating reticle has a medium-plex crosshair with four aiming circles below the horizontal center line designed to aid in aiming at distances ranging from 100 to 600 yards.

    Optics

    • Both riflescopes have magnification ranges of 3X to 9X, and objective diameters of 40 millimeters, or approximately 1.57 inches. Nikon equips the 6310 and 6320 with exit pupil ranges of 4.4 millimeters to 13.3 millimeters, or 0.17 to 0.52 inches. Both scopes have fields of view that range from 11.3 to 33.8 feet at a distance of 100 yards. Both have maximum internal adjustments of 80 minutes of angle, or MOA.

    Size and Styling

    • Both the 6310 and 6320 measure approximately 12 inches long and weigh about 14 ounces. Both have 1-inch tube diameters, objective outside diameters of 47.3 millimeters, or 1.86 inches, and eyepiece outside diameters of 39.3 millimeters, or 1.55 inches. Nikon outfits the 6310 and 6320 with 3.6 inches of eye relief and quarter-inch adjustment graduation. The 6310 and 6320 are both finished in matte black with gold accents.

    Additional Features

    • The ProStaff 6310 and 6320 are nitrogen-filled and have sealed O-rings, features that together make the scopes waterproof, fog-proof and shockproof. Both scopes feature light-transmission rates of up to 90 percent. Nikon sells the 6310 and 6320 bundled with Nikon lens caps, windage caps and elevation caps.
