"Need for Speed: Most Wanted" Marker Selection
"Need for Speed: Most Wanted" was released by EA in 2005. The cross-platform racing game has a marker system for acquiring vehicle upgrades and other items to help you advance in the game. Selecting markers has an element of chance, depending on the types of items and upgrades you want to acquire for your vehicles.

About
-
"Need for Speed: Most Wanted" uses a marker reward system to help you obtain items in the game. You can select two markers from a set of six when you defeat one of the Blacklist drivers in a race. Blacklist drivers are similar to boss characters that you face in other games. Beating a Blacklist driver helps you to advance in "Career Mode." Markers are not available in any of the other game modes.
Types
-
Markers in "Need for Speed: Most Wanted" give you items and upgrades for your cars. Cash bonuses give you more money to spend on your cars. A get out jail pass saves you money that you would need to bribe the police to let you go free. An impound strike marker provides you with an additional strike against your car, which can delay you having your car impounded. The pink slip marker gives you the car of the Blacklist driver you just defeated in the race. You can also select a car body part upgrade, a visual upgrade or a car performance upgrade.

Selecting
-
After defeating a Blacklist driver, you are taken to the "Marker Selection" screen. In the middle of the screen is a row of six symbols, all of which have a random marker underneath. The first three symbols have question marks on them, and hide the cash, jail, impound and pink slip markers. The fourth symbol is for the visual upgrade, and has an eye on it. The fifth has a black rectangle on it and is for the body part upgrade. The sixth is the car performance upgrade and has a white rectangle on it.
Considerations
-
The cash, jail, impound and pink markers are placed randomly behind the first three symbols on the "Marker Selection" screen. If you have a specific item you want to obtain, such as a pink slip, you can increase your chances of finding it if you choose two of the first three symbols. If you are unable to find the pink slip, you can reset the game before you save it and race again. The car upgrade markers are not random. Walkthroughs found on the GameFAQs website list the car upgrades for each Blacklist driver.
