The Invincible Fortress Tips for a Yu-Gi-Oh! Structure Deck
The Invincible Fortress is the seventh structure deck for the “Yu-Gi-Oh!” series of trading card and video games. The structure deck contains a specific set of cards assembled for the purpose of defeating other players in duels based on the fictional setting. Each structure deck revolves around a theme, and the Invincible Fortress focuses on strong Earth-type monsters. This deck wins by creating an impenetrable defense and attacking your opponent’s life total directly.

High DEF Monsters
-
Earth-type monsters typically possess high DEF values. When a player positions a monster in the defense position – turned sideways – the monster cannot attack and uses its DEF value in combat. Any opponent attacking a defense-position monster with a higher DEF than the attackers ATK value takes damage equal to the difference between the ATK and DEF values. The Invincible Fortress possesses monsters with DEF values up to 4,000 points. As players begin the game with 4,000 life points, an ill-timed or poorly chosen attack can cause an immediate victory for the structure deck player.
Direct Damage
-
The Invincible Fortress also contains cards designed to inflict damage upon an opponent should she decide not to attack. Exxod, Master of the Guard stands as the centerpiece of the deck. When Exxod is in play, any face-down position monster that you turn face-up and place in attack position causes 1,000 points of damage directly to your opponent’s life total. This action is known as a "flip summon" – performing this action four times will usually win the match. Other sources of direct damage include Ectoplasmer, which allows you to sacrifice a creature to inflict damage upon your opponent, and Canyon. Canyon causes any battle damage from failed attacks to affect your opponent twice, doubling such damage.

Threat Elimination
-
Powerful creatures can still wreak havoc on your defenses, so the Invincible Fortress contains cards designed to remove such threats. The Guardian Sphinx returns all opposing monsters to your opponent’s hand, and can choose to return to face-down defense position once per turn. The Compulsory Evacuation Device allows you to select one monster on the field and return it to its owner’s hand, as well.
Turning the Tables
-
The Invincible Fortress packs a series of surprises for unwary foes. The Shield and Sword spell card switches the attack and defense values of your monsters, allowing you to launch an attack should the Guardian Sphinx leave an opponent undefended. The Great Spirit duplicates Shield and Sword’s effect whenever a player flip summons it. Shifting Shadows allows you to rearrange your face-down defense-position monsters, keeping your opponent in the dark as to which monster her attackers may face.
