"Need for Speed" Cheats to Get the Helicopter
The "Need for Speed" series of games by Electronic Arts has a variety of cheats that you can use to unlock different vehicles and change the game play. The helicopter is one of the vehicles you can unlock with a cheat code in one version of "Need for Speed." Using the helicopter is a fun diversion from the standard game play.

The police helicopter is found in many versions of "Need for Speed." The helicopters are controlled by the computer and are used to locate racers on the road. In some games, the helicopters actively try to stop your car by throwing spike strips into your path. The "Need for Speed" franchise features many different types of vehicles that you can unlock through playing the game and, in some cases, through the use of cheat codes. On "Need for Speed: High Stakes" for the PlayStation, one of the vehicles you can unlock by cheat code for use in-game is the police helicopter. The code is not included in the PC version of the game, and the helicopter is not available on any other version of "Need for Speed," at the time of publication.

"Need for Speed: High Stakes" on the PlayStation allows you to enter codes when entering a username. You can create a username by opening the "Game Options" menu. Enter "WHIRLY" as your username and you'll hear a tone indicating that the code was entered correctly. You can only use one of the cheat codes at a time; if you want to use any of the other vehicles, you need to enter a different user name, which removes the helicopter as a playable vehicle.

Once the cheat code is entered, you can access the helicopter by playing "Test Drive." When you select "Test Drive," you are taken to the garage and are able to choose from vehicles you have not yet unlocked in the game. The helicopter is among those vehicles. You can't use the helicopter in any of the other game modes on "Need for Speed: High Stakes."

The racing controls for the helicopter in "Need for Speed: High Stakes" are the same as a standard race with any of the other vehicles. The helicopter hovers a few feet off of the road, which you have to follow to complete the race; you can't bypass parts of the track by flying over them. The helicopters controls are the same as those for any of the other vehicles in the game, though the helicopter handles differently than those vehicles.
