The Share Button in Dreamweaver
The share button in the Adobe Dreamweaver Web coding and design program lets you add a sharing feature to your Web page. Officially known as the Share With Friends button, adding the Dreamweaver feature from Adobe Flash Platform Services to your Web page allows readers to share the content with friends and contacts via email.

Function
-
The Dreamweaver Share With Friends button works in a different way to the social networking share buttons that allow readers to share Web pages and blog posts with friends on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and other online networks. The Dreamweaver share button automatically opens a new message in the reader’s default email program with a link to the Web page. The user can add a comment in the email message’s text input box, then send the email with the comment and link to your content.
Adding the Share Button
-
Installing the Dreamweaver share button is a straightforward process that doesn’t require Web coding or technical knowledge. To add the button to a Web page, open the page in Dreamweaver. While in “Design” view mode, click on the insertion location for the button on the Web page. Click the tab above the Insert pane on the right-hand side of the program window. Click the “Share” option in the Insert menu. Drag the Share With Friends button from the Insert pane and drop it onto the Web page.

Configuring the Share Button
-
After adding the Share with Friends button to a Web page, configure the button by clicking and selecting the item in the Web page. From the program’s Property Inspector pane at the bottom of the screen, you can enter a partner ID to identify who owns the shared content attached to the share button. You can also specify a subject heading to appear in the user’s email Subject field, and select a design theme for the email message. Advanced options for developers include assigning a code ID and configuration ID to the button. This step is optional, and the share button works without further configuration in the Property Inspector pane.
Considerations
-
Although the Dreamweaver Share With Friends button is a useful feature that can help to promote your content, its functionality is limited when compared to many of the free social sharing widget services, such as AddThis and LikeThis. These services offer an email sharing button alongside sharing buttons for all the main social networking and microblogging sites. Add a social sharing widget to any Dreamweaver Web page by copying a snippet of design code from the sharing service and pasting the code into your Web page’s HTML code. Adobe Flash Platform Services also offers a more comprehensive Dreamweaver Share menu feature for integrating pages with social networking sites.
