HP LJ5550 Error
The HP LJ5550 -- officially known as the HP Color LaserJet 5550 -- is a series of business-oriented dry electrophotographic (DEP) laser printers from U.S. computer technology company Hewlett-Packard. As a user of the printer, you may encounter any of a collection of error messages or conditions. HP addresses these at the device's homepage.
-
Ink Cartridges
-
The HP Color LaserJet LJ5550 uses cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink cartridges for its printing tasks. The cartridges can potentially wear out prematurely, and the printer consequently shows a message on its LCD instructing you to replace them. The premature depletion of ink supply occurs when the paper size for the 100-sheet multipurpose tray of the LJ5550 is set to "ANY," thus allowing the firmware to calculate the ink for use with the largest media that the printer uses. Avoid this error by always setting the exact paper size through the device's control panel.
Printer Sharing
-
If you are a domain user account owner using the Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP operating system, you may receive the message “You do not have sufficient access to your computer to connect to the selected printer" on the computer screen when attempting to connect to a printer share. You may need to disable the "Prevent users from installing printer drivers" option in the local security settings, which you can access by clicking the Start button on the lower left-hand side of your monitor, then "Programs" and "Administrative Tools."
-
Color Text
-
The HP Color LaserJet 5550 normally prints in color -- thus, the "color" designation. However, if the driver settings are set to "Print Color Text as Black," color text documents will be printed as black. Go to the "Advanced" tab of the "Printing Preferences" window, which is pulled up by clicking on the printer's icon in the computer's control panel. When you locate the "Print Color Text as Black" option, select "Disabled" to enable color printing for all text.
Job Storage
-
When printing multiple documents from the HP Color LaserJet 5550 printer, it may produce a sheet of paper with the message "Unable to store job" printed on it. To solve this problem, go to the control panel of the printer, choose "Config Device," then "System Setup" and then "RAM Disk." Change the default setting from "Auto" to "Off" to deactivate the printer's random-access memory disk function.
