If you have Directv’s high-definition receiver with DVR, you can connect the receiver -- and iPad app -- to a Wi-Fi router to enjoy even more programming options from the provider’s online services, such as on-demand movies and TV shows.

Using the iPad to watch live TV can only be done in your home using the high-definition DVR receiver’s Wi-Fi connection. The connection kit can be installed by you or by an authorized installation technician, but if you let the technician do it, you may incur additional charges. With the Wi-Fi connection established, you can also use the Directv iPad app to view YouTube video content, but not in high definition, unless the video was recorded using high-definition equipment.
