Paint.Net Techniques
Paint.NET is a free graphic design program, which has a number of editing techniques divisible into four main categories based on the layout of the program: Tools, Layers, Adjustments and Effects. Use these functions and techniques to insert a wide-variety of digital effects, including borders, overlapping images, re-colorized graphics and other artistic renderings of photos.

Tools
-
The main toolbox dialog has shape tools, such as Rectangle and Ellipse, which can be used to create graphics of the same name. Click the tool. Double-click and drag your cursor from one corner of the workbook to the opposite corner to create a large shape to border your end-product. The toolbox also has a Paint Bucket and a Gradient, either of which can be used to fill the background of a Paint.NET workbook. Click the Gradient icon, for example, and double-click and drag your cursor from one side of the workbook to the other side, creating a gentle color transition between the two selected shades. Click the Text Tool to insert a text box. Create multiple text boxes to assign each text box its own font, color and size, producing aesthetically engaging content.
Layers Tab
-
The Layers tab is where the feature "Add New Layer" resides. Perform this task to start designing on a transparent layer separate from the automatically-inserted background layer. Delete and Duplicate functions also exist. Delete an unwanted layer, as needed, and duplicate a layer to produce a second copy of a graphic. Click the "Move Tool." Double-click and drag the copied layer to shift it within the workbook to produce, for example, two visible and identical circles. Additionally, the Layers section houses the Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical tools, which can be used to make, respectively, a mirror reflection or an upside-down photo.

Adjustments Tab
-
The Adjustments tab contains editing effects such as Brightness/Contrast and Hue/Saturation. If dissatisfied by the natural coloring of a digital photo, for example, use either effect to modify the image. Make an image seem more well-lit by increasing the brightness, and make an image more colorful by increasing the saturation. The tab also has a Sepia tool, which will re-color your graphic using brown tones. Invert Colors can alternatively be used to make dark colors light and light colors dark, which is a great technique for introducing an abstract element into an otherwise ordinary photo.
Effects Tab
-
The Effects tab is where to find artistic techniques such as Oil Painting and Pencil Sketch, which will turn a regular image into the named description. Increase the brush or pencil size to create less-detailed results. Locate the Blur and Distort effects, which can add an abstract nature to the otherwise traditional graphic. Choose a large blur radius or distorting size to amplify the results, or choose a smaller size to create a more subtle effect. This tab also contains traditional photo editing tools like Red Eye Removal, which can be used as a quick fix to turn a snapshot into a more professional-looking picture.
