The Sony Bravia HDTV TV has four High-Definition Multimedia Interface, or HDMI, outlets that allow you to plug in external devices to your TV. If the HDMI input stops working, the TV screen will show a black display with "HDMI 1" or "HDMI 2" listed at the top. When this happens, you must test your cables and TV, and either reset or repair the device.
Occasionally, glitches will cause a blank screen even though the HDMI input is working on the Bravia TV set. Turn off the set, unplug the TV from the wall, wait a few seconds and restart the TV. If the problem persists, determine whether the HDMI cables, the device or the TV itself is to blame. Unplug all of the devices and use a new HDMI cable to test each device on a TV. If the TV does not read any device, the problem is with the TV itself. If the TV only reads certain devices, the HDMI input on the device needs replaceing.
Replacing HDMI Cables
HDMI cables have HDMI input ports on each end and a braided or straight wire connecting the plugs. Each HDMI port has small prongs on the inside that connect to the TV or the device. If moved between devices, these prongs can bend or break, making the cable unusable. Replace any unusable cable with a new, high-quality HDMI cable.
Resetting the Bravia
If the HDMI problem persists after cycling the TV through the On/Off cycle and testing the HDMI cables and devices for issues, a simple reset may correct the problem. Turn the TV on and press the "Up" arrow on the TV remote. While pressing the "Up" arrow, turn the TV off using the "Power" button on the device. Release the remote button and turn the TV power on. After the device resets, you must use the auto-tune feature to add channels and devices to your TV.
If resetting the TV and replacing the HDMI cables do not solve the problem, your TV may have a faulty HDMI input circuit board. The circuit board is located inside the TV along the back panel. You can replace the circuit board, however, you can do serious damage to the TV if you do not have extensive electronic knowledge. You can also take the TV to a repair shop to have it professionally repaired or contact Sony for further assistance.
