Firefox Won't Play Embedded YouTube Videos
Embedded YouTube videos are videos that have been copied from YouTube's website, and inserted into another website. If, when browsing with Firefox, you find that these embedded YouTube videos aren't playing, there could be several possible causes. Attempting different solutions will allow you to isolate, and eliminate, the cause of the glitch.
-
Update Firefox
-
Running an outdated version of Firefox not only prevents you from enjoying the browser's latest features, but it can also cause glitches and bugs to occur while you're surfing the web. The first thing you should do when experiencing any bugs with Firefox, including embedded YouTube videos not playing, is to make sure you're running the latest version of Firefox. You can check for updates by opening Firefox, and then clicking the "Firefox" button at the top of the browser to open a drop-down menu. Hover your cursor over "Help," and then click the "About Firefox" button. A pop up dialog box will appear and begin downloading the latest updates if there are any.
Update Plugins
-
Assuming you're running the latest version of Firefox, the next step in troubleshooting your embedded YouTube video problem is to update your plugins. Plugins are add-ons to Firefox that help enhance the browsing experience. Many of these plugins are used to enhance the video viewing experience. If you experience an error that says you're missing a plugin when you attempt to view an embedded YouTube video, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the missing plugin. Next, make sure that all of your plugins are up-to-date. This will ensure that any bugs caused by outdated plugins don't affect your browsing experience. You can also disable all plugins by holding down the "Shift" button while you open Firefox, and then selecting the option to "Disable all add-ons."

Clear the Cache
-
When you browse Web pages with Mozilla, these pages are automatically (by default) saved in the cache. This way, when you open the page later, it can be quickly pulled from the cache, instead of having to re-download it from scratch. The purpose of this is to speed up the Web browsing process. However, pulling these pages from the cache may incidentally cause older versions of pages to be pulled up. This can cause bugs to occur, in the same way that having an outdated browser or plugin can. Clear your cache to ensure that you're getting the most recent versions of the Web pages.
Check the Settings
-
There are a few settings that can interfere with the viewing of embedded YouTube videos, including the cookies, JavaScript and pop-up blocking. These can all be found in the "Options" window, which can be opened by clicking the "Firefox" button at the top of the browser, and then selecting "Options." First, click the "Privacy" icon in the "Options" window, and then make sure that "Cookies" are enabled. Next, click the "Content" icon, and then click the "Exceptions" button by the "Block pop-up Windows" option. Set the website as an exception so that you can view pop-ups. While you're under the "Content" section, make sure that the "Enable JavaScript" box is checked also. Click "OK" when you're done to save your settings.
Reinstall Firefox
-
If no troubleshooting solutions have worked for you, try removing Firefox completely through Windows uninstaller (under "Control Panel," followed by "Uninstall a Program"), and then reinstalling it. After it has been successfully uninstalled, download a new copy from Mozilla's website, and then install it. You may lose your settings and add-ons, but you may also be able to view embedded YouTube videos again. If a completely new version of Firefox doesn't fix your problem, then you may have to view embedded YouTube videos in a different browser.
