Make Christmas Eve breakfast the start of your holiday celebrations.

Start your Christmas celebration with a Christmas Eve breakfast and your family will indeed feel special. Dress up your table and dining room with Christmas decorations, including a centerpiece, linens and the good dishes. Include a few room decorations, too, so your family can get started early celebrating Christmas. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Centerpiece

    • Put a small poinsettia in a decorative pot to serve as a smallish breakfast table centerpiece. To dress it up even more, wire a package bow to a stick and insert the stick into the soil of the poinsettia. Another option is to fill a small, clear crystal bowl or vase with glass bulb ornaments. For the most effective appearance, use smallish bulbs, about 2 to 3 inches in diameter. That way, you'll be able to fit several into a crystal vase or bowl.

    Place Settings

    • Use Christmas-themed dinnerware, either alone or mixed with a few red, green or gold pieces, to dress up each person's place settings. Use real linen napkins in a color that complements the dishes. Create napkin rings of strings of beads in Christmas colors, or tie the napkins with brightly-colored ribbons. You could even thread a tiny glass ornament onto the ribbon used to tie the napkins, which will coordinate with a crystal vase or bowl filled with small ornaments.

    Favors

    • Offer guests the gift of a small favor, usually placed at their place setting at the table. Wrap your guests' favors in identical boxes, using wrapping paper that coordinates with the rest of your table scape. Fasten a bow to the package and attach a fairly large To: tag onto the package. The package tags will also function as place markers. Indicate whether the favors should be opened before or after breakfast.

    General Room Decor

    • Put a small, tabletop tree on the sideboard. If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace in your dining room, decorate the mantel with candles, flowers and garlands, just like you'd decorate the mantel in the living room. If your holiday breakfast is in the kitchen, try hanging wreaths on wide ribbons from the curtain rods. Scatter a variety of Christmas-themed knickknacks on the kitchen counters.
