Vertical Scrolling in Firefox Is Very Jumpy
Firefox is a Web browser designed by Mozilla that has grown to be one of the most widely-used browsers in the world. While it is updated constantly, Firefox is not without some longstanding flaws. If your scrolling isn't smooth and ends up being choppy or lags behind, it could be a result of an out-of-date or corrupt add-on or another temporary issue.

Restart Browser
-
When your browser runs for too long, it can start to build up a lot of saved data. This can affect more than just scrolling; eventually your browser will start to slow down or lag behind. You will notice this effect more often when you have a large number of tabs open or are attempting to scroll down a page with much content that needs to be loaded, like large images. Restarting the browser helps clear some of this data and give it a fresh start, which can help it run more smoothly.
Clear Data
-
Even if your temporary data is cleared, your browser can still be a bit bulky with all your saved data, site preferences, cache and cookies. From the "Tools" menu, select "Clear Recent History." Click the arrow next to "Details," then check the boxes next to any of the data you can afford to delete without too much of an inconvenience. Select a time range from the drop-down menu; the farther back you choose, the more data it will clear. Click the "Clear Now" button when finished.

Update the Browser
-
Occasionally, the scrolling issue can be the result of a bug or operational error in an older version of Firefox. Patches and updates are released frequently, so updating your browser to the latest version will ensure that you have the most recent bug fixes. Click "Help," then click "About Firefox." The window will automatically check for updates, and if any are available, download and install them.
Run in Safe Mode
-
Sometimes an add-on can cause your browser to lag while scrolling, especially if it is out-of-date or conflicting with other processes. To test this, start by running Firefox in Safe Mode; hold down the "Shift" key as you open Firefox, and the Safe Mode window. Check the first box, "Disable all add-ons," then click "Continue in Safe Mode." Test your scrolling; if it works fine, this is a sign that one of your add-ons is probably causing the trouble. Enable one add-on at a time and continue to test to determine which add-on is causing the jumpy scrolling.
