Canon MP160 Loading Problems

The Canon MP160 PIXMA is a photo All-In-One printer that was released in 2007. Although many MP160 users do not experience problems with loading and printing paper on the MP160, some may experience loading problems when attempting to use the printer. There are six main causes for loading problems on the Canon MP160, and users who understand these causes are better equipped to find a solution for their specific loading problem.

  1. Paper Amount

    • One of the most common causes of loading problems with the Canon MP160 PIXMA printer is attempting to load too many sheets of paper. The printer features an Auto Sheet Feeder that is capable of handling up to 100 sheets of plain paper, 10 envelopes or 10 sheets of glossy photo feeder. If you load too many pieces of paper, this can cause the Auto Sheet Feeder to jam, or can even wreck the printer’s other components. When you're experiencing a loading problem with the Canon MP160 PIXMA printer, always try to reprint with fewer pieces of paper in the printer.

    Broken Paper Guide

    • When loading paper in the MP160 PIXMA printer’s Auto Sheet Feeder, users must use the paper guide. The paper guide on the MP160 is responsible for keeping the paper straight as it is fed into the printer. Many loading problems associated with the PIXMA printer are caused by a broken or otherwise damaged paper guide. Users can check whether or not their PIXMA MP160’s paper guide works by moving it from the left to the right side of the sheet feeder. If the paper guide does not move correctly, this indicates that it may be damaged and may be the source of the loading problems.

    Jams

    • As with many other printers, paper jams are a common cause of loading problems on the Canon MP160 PIXMA printer. Paper jams on the MP160 are typically visible from the either the Auto Sheet Feeder or output tray, although trickier jams may only be visible by lifting the printer’s cover. Jams are typically caused either by overloading the MP160 with printer or due to overheating in the printer. Most MP160 PIXMA jams can be resolved by carefully pulling the paper out of the printer.

    Other Causes

    • In addition to overloading, broken paper guides, and jams, there are a few other causes of loading problems on the Canon MP160. Loading problems may be caused by a dirty pickup roller, which is part of the Auto Sheet Feeder mechanism in the printer. Additionally, paper may not load correctly because it is not compatible with the MP160. Users can check compatibility of paper with the printer by consulting the MP160’s user manual. Paper also may not load correctly due to a one-time printer failure, which is typically resolved by turning the MP160 off and then back on again.
