Yahoo! Autosync was an updated version of the older Yahoo! Intellisync.

Yahoo! Autosync was a PC program designed to synchronize information, such as your address book contacts and calendar appointments, between your Yahoo! account and other programs, including Microsoft Outlook and Palm Desktop. Yahoo! discontinued updates for the program in 2009, and it does not currently support Windows Vista or Windows 7, nor the newest versions of most information managers such as Outlook. On older computers, however, you can still set it up.

  1. Set Up

    • Autosync will start its setup the first time you run it after downloading. On the first screen, pick which entries you want synchronized from the following options: Address Book, Calendar, Notepad and Tasks/ToDos. Select which programs with which to sync. Autosync supports Microsoft Outlook, Palm Desktop and Outlook Express. Outlook Express only works with the address book data. Press next, and choose either manual or automatic syncing. On the final screen, log in to your Yahoo! account.

    Working with Data

    • The first time you sync, Autosync will scan both sets of information and merge the two. If it encounters possible duplicates, it will ask you which to keep. After the initial sync, any time you update information in your desktop program, Autosync will upload it to your Yahoo! account. Autosync will check for and download changes made on your account every hour. If you want to delete all your data from Yahoo! without erasing your local copy, check the box labeled "Wait! Don’t delete any entries. I want to restore them." on the Autosync confirmation window.

    Advanced Settings

    • Autosync offers advanced settings to specify which entries will be synchronized. Enter the options by clicking "Preferences" in the Autosync menu and clicking "Advanced Settings." In this window you can set a specific date range for synchronization, exclude finished to-do items or write your own filters to narrow down your data. In the Filters & Mapping tab, click "Conflict Resolution" to change how Autosync deals with duplicate information.

    Troubleshooting

    • If Autosync fails to synchronize your data, check to be sure you have an active Internet connection. Make sure your name and password are correct, and if you've changed your Yahoo! password, update it in Autosync. Sometimes due to server issues, you may need to wait and try again later. If nothing else helps, uninstall and reinstall Autosync. To fix data appearing with incorrect times, make sure your computer and your Yahoo! Calendar are set to the same time zone.
