The rubber duck is a popular icon in the United States.

Rubber ducks date back to the early 1800s when they were made from hard yellow rubber and used as toys. Modern rubber ducks are considered icons and encompass a large variety of styles, including a rainbow of colors, holiday-themed and those that depict famous cartoon characters. If you enjoy the iconic status of the rubber duck, use a cookie cutter and your creativity to decorate cookies for any holiday, occasion or gathering. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Baby Shower

    • Because rubber ducks are toys, you can incorporate a rubber duck theme into a baby shower for a friend or loved one. Traditional rubber ducks are yellow, which is a color that works well if the gender of the baby is unknown. Frost rubber duck-shaped cookies with yellow icing and sprinkle with yellow sugar sprinkles. If the gender of the baby is known, pipe on a blue hat or a pink bow using a cake decorating bag. Alternatively, frost the rubber ducks blue or pink and decorate with blue or pink sprinkles or colored sugar. Pipe on a white diaper or a colored bib.

    Birthday Party

    • If your child enjoys playing with rubber ducks, you can incorporate them into a birthday party. Frost your rubber duck-shaped cookies any color you wish. Pipe birthday hats or colored balloons onto each cookie. Make a bathtub-shaped cake and add your rubber duck cookies so they appear to be floating in the bath water. Alternatively, make cupcakes and press one rubber duck-shaped cookie into the frosting on each one. Decorate the rubber duck cookies to align with the theme of the birthday party as another way to incorporate them into your celebration. Pipe on tiaras for a princess party, leis for a hula party or fire helmets for a fire engine party.

    Holiday Gathering

    • Incorporate rubber ducks into any holiday gathering. Rubber duck-shaped cookies can be frosted in any color, such as red and green for Christmas or orange and black for Halloween. Use a cake decorating bag and assorted decorations, such as sprinkles, to enhance your cookies even further. Pipe on costumes for Halloween-inspired rubber ducks or add Christmas ornaments or Santa faces onto Christmas-inspired cookies. Pipe Easter eggs or bunny ears onto Easter-inspired cookies or an American flag onto Fourth of July-inspired cookies.

    Wedding

    • If you are inspired by the iconic status of the rubber duck, consider incorporating it into your wedding scheme. Frost rubber duck-shaped cookies in the colors of your wedding, place them into individual bags, tie them with ribbon and pass them out as wedding favors to your guests. Place an assortment of the cookies on your food table as well. Frost one rubber duck cookie to look like a groom and one to look like a bride. Place them on top of your wedding cake in place of the traditional pieces.
