What to Do If Hotmail Is Not Sending the Body of the Email

Windows Live Hotmail shouldn't experience any difficulty sending the body of an email message to a recipient. Usually, a send error prevents the message from sending at all. If the body of an email message doesn't get sent, pinpoint the cause of the error so that you can re-send the email successfully.

  1. Quotation Error

    • When you reply to someone's email message within Hotmail, the body of the original message moves to the bottom of the "Compose" window. After you send the message off, this portion of the message collapses to conceal the original message, which the recipient must click to see. If you click your mouse anywhere within the original message and begin typing your message, your recipient won't able to see the body of your email unless he clicks the option to see the "Quoted" message. In many cases, it is better to type your reply at the top of the "Compose" window so that the recipient will be able to see it upon first opening the email.

    Complicated Code

    • Hotmail allows you to insert basic HTML code into the body of your email message to embed website URLs or insert images. Hotmail doesn't support the use of more complicated coding, such as inline frames or "iFrames" for YouTube videos, JavaScript or Flash animation coding. If you attempt to use one of the latter, complicated codes within the body of the email, it doesn't display to the recipient of the message.

    Adult Content

    • Windows Live, Hotmail's parent product, includes the option for parents to place an adult content filter on children's email accounts, which blocks them from sending or receiving inappropriate content. If you use an account that is parentally controlled and are attempting to use curse words or words related to pornography, this is the likely cause. If you are a parent and have this problem, you may have accidentally applied parental controls to all Hotmail accounts.

    Entire Message Doesn't Send

    • If the entire message doesn't send -- for example, you receive an error message that sending was unsuccessful shortly after you attempt to send it -- then a broader problem exists. In some instances, the email address you entered may have been incorrect, while in others, the recipient's mailbox may be full or the message too large. Read the error message carefully, as it contains more information relating to the cause of the error.
