Sapphire HD 4850 Compatibility
The Sapphire HD 4850 is a video card based on the AMD RV770 PRO reference design. If your computer currently has an older video card, the HD 4850 may improve the visual quality of games and other 3-D applications. Before purchasing it, confirm that your computer meets the requirements for compatibility.
-
Hardware Compatibility
-
The Sapphire HD 4850 requires a computer with a PCI Express x16 slot and a 450 watt power supply with a six-pin auxiliary power connector. Because it has a large cooling unit, the HD 4850 may prevent you from installing a card in the adjacent add-on slot on your computer's motherboard. Your computer also must have at least 1GB of RAM and an optical drive for installing the included software.
CrossFireX Compatibility
-
The HD 4850 is compatible with AMD CrossFireX technology, allowing you to use two video cards simultaneously. This increases the system requirements; to install two HD 4850 video cards, your computer needs two PCI Express x16 slots, a 550 watt power supply and two six-pin auxiliary power connectors. You must also have a CrossFireX bridge to connect the two cards.
-
Operating System Compatibility
-
The Sapphire HD 4850 has device drivers available for the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. It is not compatible with older Windows versions such as Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium Edition. Sapphire also does not provide device drivers for Mac computers.
Game Compatibility
-
The Sapphire HD 4850 is compatible with Microsoft DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 2.0. Games supporting these graphics APIs or older versions will run as they should. DirectX 10 also requires Windows Vista or later. The Sapphire HD 4850 does not support DirectX 11. However, DirectX 11-based games may also have the ability to run with the Sapphire HD 4850; you simply will be unable to see any graphical enhancements that require DirectX 11.
