You can use Crosswave to get as many as three devices online at once.

Cricket Wireless offers a variety of cellular plans and devices that you can use for both standard phone calls and for mobile Internet access. If you have a Cricket Wireless cellular plan, the Crosswave device provides the latter, creating a Wi-Fi hotspot using a 3G connection that you can connect to and get online. Connecting is fairly simple, and you can usually use this device to get online in just a matter of moments.

  1. SSID Information

    • "SSID" stands for "service set identifier," and it refers to the name for a Wi-Fi network. This name is case-sensitive, though normally you don't need to remember its exact capitalization since your computer can identify and remember the name on its own as long. The only exception is if the wireless router is not broadcasting its network, meaning it's a hidden network; in this case, you must type in the SSID correctly, including capitalization.

    Crosswave SSID

    • The Cricket Crosswave device broadcasts its own SSID, so any device with Wi-Fi can detect the network, like Windows laptops, smartphones, tablet PCs and even gaming consoles. The SSID for the network is "CROSSWAVE-xxxx." The network is secured, which means users cannot connect to the network without providing the correct password. You can find the password for your Crosswave hotspot by removing the back battery cover to the device and looking at the label below the cover. You do not need to remove the battery to view the label.

    Windows 7 Connection

    • When your Crosswave is on, you can quickly connect to its network using a Windows 7 computer. After you've noted the password under the Crosswave's battery cover, you just need to click the network icon on your computer, which is in the lower-right corner of your screen. The icon will either have several bars in it, similar to a cell phone's signal indicator, or it will have the image of a monitor and an Ethernet cord. You'll see a list of wireless networks appear, and you can click "CROSSWAVE -xxxx," then "Connect." Windows will prompt you for the password, and after you provide it, you'll be connected to the network.

    Activation

    • You actually can't access the Internet without activating your Crosswave. To do this, you need to connect to the Crosswave's network and type "192.168.1.1" in the Web address bar in your browser. This is the same place you'd type a website's address to visit it. A window will pop up, and after you click "Activate," another window will appear where you should click "OK," and the Crosswave device will disconnect temporarily and restart. In a few moments, you'll see a screen informing you that the connection was successful, and you'll be online.
