MySpace's aim is supplying users with social entertainment. Creating a free account gives you the opportunity to contact friends and family, listen to music, upload and browse pictures and play games. MySpace can be accessed through Internet browsers and mobile devices and can also connect with Facebook and Twitter accounts. Because MySpace is a free service, user profiles are often displayed with advertisements and banners that link to other websites.

  1. Setup

    • User profiles can be created and set up in two different ways. Custom designed MySpace profile layouts are available for use on many websites on the Internet or you can create your own layout using the customization tools. Using a layout from the Internet requires copying an HTML code and applying it into a section of your profile. The customization tools allow you to choose different background images and sections, then modify colors, text and outline of the profile.

    Banners

    • Although it is possible to set up a MySpace profile in two different ways, each way displays advertisements and banners on your profile. The banners won't be visible during setup and customization, but any user who views your profile will be able to see them. Advertising banners are inserted by MySpace and are usually located at the top and bottom of your profile. These banners appear no matter which way your profile is set up. When using a layout from the Internet, the HTML code usually inserts additional banners that show users where the layout originated from.

    HTML Banner Removal

    • Understanding basic HTML and knowing what some of the codes mean is crucial in removing the banners that are built into the HTML code from an Internet layout. These banners can be removed by deleting the HTML table section for each banner out of the copied HTML code. HTML table codes typically begin with “<div style=” and end with “</div>.” The URL and any table settings pertaining to that specific banner should be deleted from the HTML code. Back up a copy of the original code in case you make a mistake. Removing HTML banners from Internet layouts may violate a copyright or terms and conditions of the originating website.

    Covering HTML Banners

    • Instead of deleting the HTML table, covering advertising banners involves inserting an HTML table over the top of the banner. Because advertising banners vary in size and location, it is usually impossible to block the entire banner, but the majority of each advertising banner can be hidden. Adding the HTML table into the correct area of your profile may be tricky, but the position and size of the table can also be altered in the HTML code. Any URL for a picture or image can be used as the HTML table. Covering HTML banners may result in a violation of the terms and conditions for MySpace.
