I Can't Forward My Email Attachments in Cox WebMail

Email forwarding is a quick way to send an email message to multiple recipients, without having to type the entire message thread all over again. Most email service providers, including Cox Internet, have an established protocol for sending and receiving messages. If you violate the protocol, your attempt to forward an email attachment over the Cox mail servers will be unsuccessful.

  1. Read Error Message

    • In most cases, when you are unable to send an email message, an error message is generated. The error message includes the details of why your message is not forwarding. Common error messages include “User Unknown.” For this error message, verify the email address is entered properly and attempt to resend the message. Another common error message is “User Over Quota.” To resolve this issue, advise the intended message recipient to delete some of his email messages to free up mail server space.

    Check Attachment Size

    • When sending an email message over the Cox mail servers, there are limitations on message size. Your message can not exceed 20MB. This 20MB limitation includes email attachments. Check the size of your email attachment to see if it exceeds the 20MB allotment. If it does, the only way to forward your message is to save the attachment to your computer's hard drive and compress it to a smaller file (less than 20MB). There are several software programs online that you can use to compress files for free, including ZipMyFiles, NippyZip and FileStomp.

    Check The Number Of Recipients

    • To prevent a lot of spam and email abuse from email customers, Cox places a limitation on the number of email addresses to which you can send a message. Unfortunately, because the recipient limit fluctuates, Cox does not specify the number of email addresses to which you are allowed to send a message. If you are attempting to forward the email attachment to a lot of email addresses, try reducing the number of addresses you send to at one time.

    Other Options

    • If you are still unable to forward the email attachment, try sending the attachment as a brand new message. To do this, download the original attachment to your computer's hard drive. Log in to your Cox email account. Select the option to compose a new message. Click “Attach” to locate the saved attachment on your computer's hard drive and attach it to the new message. If you are still unable to send the message attachment, the only other option is to include the attachment in a new message sent from a third-party email account, such as Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail.
