Swiss-Made Food Processors That Mix From the Bottom

Bamix of Switzerland manufactures two hand-held immersion blenders that include a "wet/dry mill" attachment for food processing. The three-blade Swissline and the four-blade Superbox blend a variety of wet and dry ingredients, including vegetables, seeds, coffee, breads, meats, fish, herbs and eggs. No other Swiss-made processors mix from the bottom like that. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Features

    • The Bamix Swissline and Superbox run on 150 watts of electrical power with 10,000 to 15,000 revolutions per minute. Each model provides a double-sleeved insulation system and a two-speed safety switch that runs on an intermittent five-minute cycle. Both models include a cookbook, counter stand, an instructional DVD or VHS tape, a 10-year limited warranty on all manufactured parts and 6.2 feet of electrical cord for easy mobility around the kitchen.

    Swissline vs. Superbox

    • With the exception of the number of blades and the type of included accessories, the Superbox and Swissline are identical food processors. Each model is the same size and weight, or around 13 inches long and 3 lbs., respectively. Both models include the wet/dry mill for food processing and a polycarbonate jug for mixing and storage. The Superbox model includes a 30-ounce and 13 1/2-ounce jug, while the Swissline includes a 20-ounce jug. The Superbox is the only model that comes with SliceSy, a universal Bamix attachment that grates and slices vegetables, fruit and meats.

    Operating Instructions

    • The Bamix Swissline and Superbox have two speed settings. Speed 1 is above speed 2 on the hand-held wand. The Bamix website suggests mixing on speed 2 as a general rule. Use speed 1 for recipes that call for light and fluffy texture or when the four-pronged safety guard does not cover the mixing liquid in the jug. Place the blender at the bottom of the jug and then slowly pull it up to blend the mix together. Rotate your wrist to re-insert the blender back into the bottom of the jug, without forcing or pushing it down. Repeat as necessary until desired texture.

    Price and Availability

    • Available from Bamix or an authorized dealer, the Bamix Swissline and Superbox retail for $399 and $499 respectively, as of publication date. The universal Bamix SliceSy attachment retails for $199. Additional attachments, such as aerators, meat blades and mincers, are also available for purchase.
