Firefox was developed by the Mozilla organization.

The AOL website and its mail application are designed to be compatible with any Web browser, including Firefox. If you are unable to log in to your account on Firefox, AOL is probably being blocked by an anti-virus add-on or your computer's anti-virus program. If you cannot log in to AOL on any browser, the site may be experiencing technical difficulties.

  1. Dial-Up Connection

    • AOL Mail is not meant to be accessed via dial-up Internet, so if you try to log in to your account while running a dial-up connection, you may experience problems. In this case, the issue has nothing to do with Firefox, and will occur regardless of which Web browser you use. In addition, you should not attempt to access AOL Mail on Firefox while you are also running the AOL software.

    Disable Pop-Up Blocker

    • A popup blocker in Firefox might prohibit AOL from logging you into your account. To ensure that AOL is always allowed to create popups when necessary, click on the "Firefox" icon in the top left corner of your browser, click "Options" and then choose "Options" again. Go to the "Content" tab and click on the "Exceptions" button next to "Block pop-up windows." Type the AOL website into the "Address of website" field and click "Allow."

    Disable Anti-Virus Software

    • Anti-virus software, such as McAfee, can sometimes block AOL from allowing your log in if it erroneously identifies the site as containing malicious content. Adding AOL to the list of safe websites in your Anti-virus program will allow your log in to complete successfully. You may need to close your Firefox browser and then restart it before logging in to AOL.

    Clearing Cache and Cookies

    • Cookies and cache are short-term memory features of your Firefox browser, saving website information that you might need to use later. When you clear cache and cookies, it refreshes the AOL site, deleting any previous log in information. To delete your Firefox cookies and cache, click on the "Firefox" icon in the top left corner of your browser and hover your mouse over "History." Choose "Clear Recent History" and check the boxes next to "Cookies," "Cache" and "Browsing History," and click "Clear Now."
