Crescent Rod Shower Solutions
The Crescent Rod is a curved shower curtain rod created by Shower Solutions, Inc. (showersolutions.com). Though frequently used by hotels and motels, Crescent Rods are available to the public through numerous catalogs, online and brick-and-mortar retailers. Originally designed for use with showers in curved bathtubs, the curved rods also work with rectangular tubs. Does this Spark an idea?

Benefits
-
When you use a straight shower curtain rod with a curved bathtub, you lose shower space if you mount the rod at the narrow ends of the tub. If you mount a straight rod at the widest part of the tub, water escapes from the shallower ends. The Crescent Rod’s curved shape lets you use all of the shower space without soaking the floor.
Using a curved shower curtain rod with a rectangular bathtub gives you more shoulder space in the shower. Though the bottom of the shower curtain still fits inside the tub, you’ve got more room to move around, such as when you raise your arms to shampoo your hair.
Options
-
The Crescent Rod comes in both 5- and 6-foot lengths. The design features swivel connectors that allow you to adjust the length for your exact shower opening size. Finish options include powder coated white, bright polished stainless steel and satin brushed stainless steel. The polished stainless steel finish has a shiny surface. The brushed stainless finish has a subtle gleam.
You may also choose a double Crescent Rod, which features two curved rods installed on a single set of brackets.

Shower Curtain Options
-
Crescent Rods work with standard, ready-made shower curtains appropriate for 5- or 6-foot shower curtain rods. You may hang the shower curtain from hooks or rings designed to work with rods with a 1-inch diameter. Tab- or tie-top shower curtains also work, as do those with grommets measuring at least 1 1/4 inches in diameter.
Installation
-
To install a Crescent Rod on a rectangular shower, mount the brackets 3 inches in -- toward the back wall of the shower -- from where you’d mount a straight shower curtain rod. For curved bathtubs, follow the curve of the tub to determine the bracket placement.
Crescent Rods come with the hardware you’ll need to mount them on tile or wall board, such as Sheetrock. The rods do not ship with mounting hardware for fiberglass or acrylic shower surrounds. They may crack under the shower rod’s weight, according to Shower Solutions customer support. It recommends oversized, multipronged molly bolts for mounting on fiberglass or acrylic, which redistribute the rod’s weight over a larger area of the shower surround.
