UStream Crashes Firefox

Ustream allows you to go live on the Internet to broadcast video, such as talk shows, sporting events and concerts. However, live streams crash in Firefox if the browser is missing vital components required for broadcasting. This interactive broadcast platform connects you to the world as long as you have a camera and a network connection. If you're experiencing difficulty broadcasting, Ustream provides solutions to solve crashes and optimize live streams.

  1. Flash Player

    • Adobe Flash Player is the default plug-in Ustream relies on to stream live video in Firefox. If the plug-in is outdated or damaged, Ustream can crash Firefox when you broadcast video or watch live streams. In addition, Ustream warns that Flash Player doesn't work well with some hard-drive DV camcorders. If you're not sure whether Flash Player is working correctly or not, visit the test page on Adobe's website to discover the version you're using and whether you should upgrade. If you're using an older version, download and install the latest version to solve problems with crashes.

    Alternatives

    • If Adobe Flash Player continues to cause problems, Ustream recommends using either CamTwist or WebcamMax for live streaming. CamTwist is free. WebcamMax is available in a free version as well as a paid edition that includes additional video features. After installing one of these video programs, adjust the Ustream advanced settings from the broadcast panel. In the settings, select either one of these programs to help eliminate crashing problems.

    Firewalls

    • Firewalls block Ustream connections in Firefox and can cause live streams to close or crash. This is especially common with firewalls such as the Adblock Plus extension. If this program appears in the upper right on your browser, click the drop-down arrow and click "Disable on ustream.tv" to allow live connections. You may need to disable multiple entries. If Firefox is using a "Noscript" add-on, a blue "S" button appears on the taskbar. Locate the button and click it to allow ustream.tv connections.

    Network

    • If your network connection keeps dropping, live broadcasts on Ustream freeze. If the problem persists, the website usually crashes. To improve live streaming, Ustream recommends a network connection with a consistent upload speed of at least 1Mbps, although 1.5Mbps or higher is preferred. Slower network connection speeds lead to choppy video and audio sync issues.
