Why Does My Skype Freeze Options?
Whether you use the software to chat, make a voice or video call to another computer or a landline or cellphone, use of the program Skype occupies a significant amount of your system's memory and processor. In some instances, using Skype causes other options on your computer to freeze or stop working. Determine the reason for system deficiency to put an end to the freezing the resume using both the system and Skype as usual.

Skype System Requirements
-
Using Skype on your computer requires that you use the Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP operating systems. If you use the former two operating systems, you must have at least 1GB of random access memory or RAM, while Windows XP requires at least 512MB. No matter which operating system you use, you must use a processor with a speed of at least 1GHz. If your system is deficient in any of these regards it may cause Skype to freeze.
RAM and Applications
-
RAM is particularly important in the efficient and proper operation of Skype, since Skype uses a significant amount of system RAM, particularly if you use it to make a voice or video call. RAM is the hardware component that allows your computer to run multiple applications at once. If Skype freezes, try closing out of applications you aren't using to free up system RAM for Skype to use.

Windows Task Manager
-
If you aren't sure which programs to close -- in general, you should close high-usage applications like multimedia viewing and editing software -- the Windows Task Manager allows you both to see which applications use a lot of memory, as well as to close out of them with a single click. Hold down "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Del" at the same time to access the Task Manager, then click the "Processes" tab to see a list of processes currently running on the computer, alongside the percentage of the system's resources they use. Click the name of an application, then "End Process" to close out of it.
Skype Software Version
-
If you're using a system with plenty of RAM and processor speed and aren't otherwise compromising your system's resources, Skype's propensity to freeze may result from using an older version of Skype. To see if your Skype software is out of date, click the "Skype" drop-down menu and select the "Check for Updates" option.
