Rapimgr.exe is a system management program that controls communication processes for the Microsoft ActiveSync application. Microsoft ActiveSync is a program that you can use to synchronize data between a mobile phone or mobile PC and your computer. -
In most cases, you can find a copy of the rapimgr.exe file residing in a subfolder of the C:\Program Files folder. If you have an ActiveSync subfolder in the Program Files directory then that is a likely location for rapimgr.exe to be located. Depending on the version of ActiveSync installed on your computer, the rapimgr.exe file ranges in size from about 176 kilobytes to 203 kilobytes.

Malware
-
Most copies of rapimgr.exe are legitimate execurable files associated with the ActiveSync software. However, occasionally a malware or spyware program will disguise itself as the rapimgr.exe process. If you locate the rapimgr.exe file in a directory other than "C:\Program Files" then the program may in fact be malware. You should be particularly suspicious of an instance of rapimgr.exe if it is located in the "C:\Windows" folder, since it is not a Windows system process. Another sign that rapimgr.exe may not be legit is if the file is smaller than 176 kilobytes or greater than 203 kilobytes in size.

If you use Microsoft ActiveSync to synchronize a mobile device with your PC then you should not remove rapimgr.exe, unless you have reason to believe that you have a copy of rapimgr.exe that is actually malware. If you don't use Microsoft ActiveSync, or if you believe the executable may be malware, then you can safely remove the process from your computer. First, press the "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Esc" keys simultaneously to open Windows Task Manager. Then right-click the entry for rapimgr.exe and kill the process. Then open a run command box and type "appwiz.cpl" to open the Windows Programs and Features control panel. Locate "Microsoft ActiveSync" in the programs list, then right-click the entry and choose "Uninstall" in the menu.
