GE Monogram gas cooktops offer a streamlined appearance while making cooking more convenient and simple for you. GE makes the Monogram model with stainless steel and glass cooktop surfaces. Both of these surfaces require proper care and maintenance to keep them clean without causing scratches or other damage. Simple cleaning supplies and techniques will help you keep your GE Monogram Gas Cooktop in its best condition.
Stainless Steel Cooktop -- Regular Cleaning
Stainless steel scratches easily. Although tiny scratches might be hard to see, you'll notice them when stain material starts collecting in the grooves. Abrasive cleansers and cleaning tools should be avoided whenever you clean your stainless steel GE Monogram cooktop. You can use stainless steel cleaner, all-purpose cleaning spray or ammonia-based cleaning products as commercial solutions. If you prefer to use home remedies, keep a bottle of full-strength white vinegar handy for everyday, general cleaning of your stainless steel stove top. Apply the cleaner of your choice and wipe it off with a soft cloth or sponge.
Stainless Steel Cooktop -- Heavy Stain Removal
Stain material that's been left to sit on the surface of your GE Monogram stainless steel gas cook top could become burned-on or dried if it's not removed in a timely manner. While it might be tempting to tackle the stubborn stain with an abrasive scrubbing pad, don't do this. You can remove heavy stains without scratching the stainless steel by moistening the stain with water, undiluted vinegar or ammonia. Follow this by sprinkling baking soda over the stain to cover it. After the moisture and baking soda are in contact with the stain for five to 10 minutes, it will soften so you can wipe it off. If you find you still need a little extra scrubbing power, use a nylon mesh sponge.
Glass Cooktop -- Regular Cleaning
Special cleaners are usually recommended for cleaning glass and ceramic cooktops. These cleaners are made to remove stains and dirts without scratching the glass. Although you can buy a glass and ceramic cooktop cleaning solution at the hardware or appliance store, you can also use a sprinkling of baking soda and a cloth dampened with white vinegar for everyday cleaning. Commercial glass cooktop cleaner doesn't have to be rinsed off. Just dry the surface with a paper towel. When you use baking soda to clean the glass, rinse the surface with a damp cloth or sponge so you're not left with a white, baking soda residue. It's best to let the glass cool down before cleaning. However, clean sugar mixture spills as soon as possible to prevent damaging the surface
Glass Cooktop -- Heavy Stain Removal
Removing stains from glass cooktops requires a gentle touch, similar to stainless steel cooktops. The use of abrasive scrubbers or cleaning products causes scratches in the glass. GE recommends a single-edged razor scraper for removing heavy, burned-on stains. After applying a few drops of glass cooktop cleaner to soften the stain material, scrape the stain material with the razor edged scraper to remove it. Once the stain material is removed, you can wipe off any remaining stain residue with a damp sponge.
