Cake pops are small round treats made from cake mix. Usually the cake pops are placed on the end of a lollipop stick to make them fun to serve. Making the desserts without the stick frees up more storage space and gives the cake pops a flat bottom. People enjoy making cake pops because of the creativity involved in the process. The desserts are made from virtually any cake mix that you desire, and you can customize them for a special event or party.

Bake the cake according to the box directions. Follow the directions for a 13-by-9-inch cake.

Remove the cake from the oven. Allow the cake to cool completely before you remove it.

Remove the cake from the pan with a spatula. Crumble the cake into a large bowl with your hands.

Add a can of cream cheese frosting to the crumbled cake. Stir the mixture with a spatula.

Remove a small amount of the cake mix. Roll the cake mix into balls no larger than a quarter.

Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Place the cake balls onto the cookie sheet.

Place the cake balls in the refrigerator to chill until they are firm.

Pour 1/4 cup candy melts into a microwave-safe bowl. Melt the candy melts at 50 percent power for 30-second intervals. Stir the candy coating and continue to heat it until it melts completely.

Drop one cake pop into the melted candy coating at a time. Move the cake pop around in the coating with a spoon until you cover it completely.

Remove the cake pops from the candy coating. Place the pops onto the wax paper to harden.

Store the cake pops in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Tips

  • Place the candy coating back into the microwave if it becomes too thick to work with. Melt the candy coating as you need it.

  • Add sprinkles or decorations to the cake pops while the candy coating remains soft.
