Nylon Doll Crafts

Before tossing out that drawer of old nylon socks and pantyhose, consider using them to make a few doll crafts. Adults and children can make these crafts together, while enjoying quality family time. From basic dolls to doll clothes to holiday dolls, all you need are a few ideas and a creative imagination to get started. Keep the doll crafts for yourself or give them away as gifts to loved ones.

Basic

Make a basic sock doll by filling up a long, white nylon sock with cotton filling or cotton balls. Tie a rubber band above the filling and fold any excess sock down over the rubber band. Cut up strands of yarn to glue on the top of the sock to make the doll’s hair. Use fabric, rhinestones, googly eyes and fabric markers to decorate the sock. Glue several rhinestones around the neck of the sock to create a necklace or one on each ear for earrings. Use different size nylon socks to create small, medium and large dolls.

Clothes

Help children create clothes for dolls using pantyhose. Make a pair of pantyhose to fit a small plastic doll by cutting a square of pantyhose in the length of the doll’s leg. Draw a line of regular glue down the back of the leg and glue one side of the pantyhose to the leg. Place a line of glue on top of the pantyhose and wrap it tightly around the leg. Do this to the other leg. When the glue dries, the pantyhose will slide off the plastic legs, since glue will not stick to the plastic. Another idea is a fancy dress for a small, plastic doll. Wrap a bigger piece of pantyhose from above the bust to above the knees or at the ankles. Glue and pull the pantyhose tight to create a short or long formal gown. Paint a thin layer of glue on the pantyhose and sprinkle with glitter to add some sparkle.

Funny

Create a funny doll craft using pantyhose. Use a knee-high or cut the foot off a pair of pantyhose. Cut the pantyhose so it is about 6 inches in length. Drop a small handful of grass seed into the foot of the panty hose and fill the rest of the way with sawdust. Use a rubber band to tie off the pantyhose. Place the pantyhose ball into a cup filled with water, grass seeds side up. Use a fabric marker to draw a face on the pantyhose. When the grass seed begins to grow, it will resemble the hair. Call it a “hairy potato head.”

Holiday

Use nylon holiday socks to create dolls for the holidays. For example, make a basic doll with the sock but use a candy corn sock to make a Halloween-themed doll or an ornament-themed sock to make a Christmas doll. Another idea is to make red, white and pink dolls to create Valentine-themed dolls. Decorate the socks by drawing hearts, cupids and candy on the sock. Add red, white and pink hair to the dolls.
